Tuesday Night Indie Spotlight Ep. 65: Seasons After Fall | PS4 Gameplay
Tuesday night is indie night! This week, I (@piccolo930) fired up developer Swing Swing Submarine's hand-painted puzzle-platformer, Seasons After Fall.
Like most of its hand-drawn brethren, Seasons After Fall is an incredibly beautiful video game. The hand-painted graphics look ripped from a museum, and they give the game a storybook feel and aesthetic perfectly inline with the magical narrative on display. I love the different animal designs that make up the various Guardians of the Seasons, and the fox character you control is wonderfully animated itself. In fact, the game is rock solid technically, with nary a hitch in sight. The way the game uses motion blur when running takes a bit of getting used to at first, but I quickly adjusted and found myself right at home in the game world. The game itself is a little slow in the early going, with the majority of your time spent running back and forth through a forest environment and engaging in simple platforming, but I enjoyed my time with it nonetheless. I was only able to scratch the surface of what the game had to offer puzzle-wise, but I like the ones I've had a chance to experience so far. I think the idea of shifting back-and-forth between the seasons as a puzzle-solving mechanic is a novel one, and I'm eager to see how this evolves as I gain access to more seasons and assuredly come across much more complex brain teasers later on. I'm definitely intrigued, and I definitely want to keep playing and see where the puzzles and narrative go from here. If you've yet to check out Seasons After Fall for yourself, take a look at the video below and see what it's all about!
