Thursday Night Indie Spotlight Episode 71: SpeedRunners | PS4 Gameplay

Thursday Night Indie Spotlight Episode 71: SpeedRunners | PS4 Gameplay

Thursday (?) night is indie night! Displaced from our normal Tuesday night time slot by the holiday this week, I (@piccolo930) fired up developer DoubleDutch Games' high-octane competitive platformer, SpeedRunners.

This is a fun one. I love the concept behind SpeedRunners -- taking the popular "runner" genre and turning it on its head by putting you in full control of your character while competing against a group of others -- and the game's slick style is the icing on the proverbial digital cake. The art, vibe, and soundtrack behind the title reminds me heavily of Pixar's The Incredibles, which is a good thing because it's a film that's a personal favorite of mine. While the single-player campaign seems fun enough, with an eclectic group of sprinters for you to compete against and unlock for your own personal use, it's clear that this game was designed first and foremost as an exceptional multiplayer experience. I hopped into the online arena for some multiplayer hotness during the second half of the stream, and it's a blast. The crazy items, speed gates, shrinking screen, and intricately designed stages make for an intense head-to-head-to-head-to-head affair. I had a blast online, and I can't wait until I can hop in there again and race against my Short Pause brethren! If you've yet to check out SpeedRunners for yourself, take a look at the video below and see what it's all about!

If you have played SpeedRunners, let us know what you think about it in the comments below, and be sure to watch the (usually) Tuesday Night Indie Spotlight live, every Tuesday at 10pm EST on our YouTube channel!

SpeedRunners was streamed with a digital copy of the game graciously provided to us by the game's terrific publisher, tinyBuild. SpeedRunners is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC!
