Short Pause Weekly Rewind | Week of May 7th, 2017

We’re now under a month away from E3, and the excitement is palpable in the Short Pause offices! Until then, we've got games to play! In the here and now, Prey is out in the wild and Forza Horizon 3's insanely fun Hot Wheels expansion is upon us. Gazing into the future, we've got a tidal wave of highly anticipated games arriving Tuesday in the form of Injustice 2, The Surge, Farpoint, and the awesome-looking Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 'Zombie Chronicles' map pack expansion! Our consoles and backlogs await! Before we get there, however, join us in taking a look at some of the cool games we showcased this past week!

Tuesday Night Indie Spotlight #64 – Butcher

Ben chose yet another challenging platformer to tackle this week, as he cranked the difficulty and gore up to 11 in Transhuman Design’s action-shooter, Butcher. Watch him navigate his way past deadly traps and demons as he sends their souls screaming back to hell (Did we mention that the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal event is happening next week?! I digress)! If you’re excited about what you see in the video below, Butcher is available now on PS4, XB1 and PC for $9.99 ($7.99 until the 16th for PS+ members).

Brent Took to the Courts in NBA Playgrounds

Wearing its NBA Jam influences on its sleeve, NBA Playgrounds launched across multiple platforms this week. Even with the multiplayer component currently absent from the Switch version of the game, Brent’s honing his skills for the day when the online switch is flipped as he takes the AI to school in the video below. NBA Playgrounds is available on PS4, XB1, PC, and Switch for $19.99.

Play & Listen’s JD Plays Kamiko

Kamiko released a few weeks ago on the Switch, and JD picked it up on a whim. He tells us it’s quite great, especially for the low entry price. He highlights a couple tracks from the game in his latest episode of the Play and Listen Gaming Podcast, which can be found on iTunes and SoundCloud, in addition to sharing his thoughts on his adventure so far. You can check out some gameplay from the opening level and first boss in the video from JD’s YouTube channel below (If you find yourself loving his content as much as ours, or even more so, hit that subscribe button!). Kamiko is available on the Switch for $4.99.

NLG’s CrazyJuan Brings His Driving Talents to Hot Wheels!

Having the forethought to turn off the great licensed music found in-game, NLG has you covered this week for those looking to see some of the hotly anticipated Hot Wheels expansion for Forza Horizon 3! You can tune in to the Original Next Gaming Podcast on Sunday nights at 9pm EST via their YouTube channel, and you can participate in the show live as Mike and the guys incorporate the ongoing chat into their various gaming conversations throughout the show. The Hot Wheels expansion can be yours on XB1 or PC as part of Forza Horizon 3’s Expansion Pass for $34.99 or purchased separately for $19.99. Newcomers can also buy a Forza Horizon 3 + Hot Wheels Bundle for $79.99 (currently $75.99 for Gold members) as a Play Anywhere purchase!

That's another week in the books! We appreciate you taking the time to stop by this week to check out the latest video content from ourselves and our friends. We'll be back with a fully staffed Episode #116 of the Short Pause Gaming Podcast this weekend as we prepare our next show for your eyes and ears to consume. Next week's release list is guaranteed to produce quite a few live streams as we've all got our eyes on something hitting the various store fronts. If you want to share your thoughts on anything that's happened this past week, including the unfortunate news surrounding Hitman and IO Interactive, or you just want to talk us about our thoughts on Taco Bell's new Naked Chicken Chips (look, Brent and Frankie will always have you covered on the latest culinary trends at your local fast food chains), let us know in an email addressed to podcast@shortpause.com, or hit us up on Twitter @TheShortPause. We look forward to hearing from you, and we'll see you back here next week for another edition of the Short Pause Weekly Rewind!
